Which Resin Lens Processes Should Be Automated First?

Start with handling, tray changes and process waiting; assess standalone machines, cells or line integration instead of pursuing equipment count.

A resin lens automation project can start with one process. HULK ROBOT shows six equipment types: mold assembly handling, casting, tape removal, demolding, edging handling and edging. They perform different tasks; not every project needs all six at once.

Record the problem before choosing equipment

Track manual handling, tray changes, equipment waiting and exception handling across a complete production cycle. Identify what limits stable production. A machine's motion speed alone does not establish the output of a modified line.

What does each type do?

  • Mold assembly handling: connects the assembly machine with material loading and unloading.
  • Lens casting: performs casting; stations and handling options depend on the process.
  • Tape removal: removes tape from cured lens molds.
  • Demolding: separates lenses and assesses downstream mold and lens transfer.
  • Edging handling: feeds and unloads the edging process.
  • Edging: processes resin lens edges and chamfer programs.

Standalone machine or process cell?

For repetitive pick-and-place, assess the relevant handling equipment first. If waiting arises between adjacent operations, review buffers, trays and interfaces together. Suitability must be established from the actual process and samples.
